Privacy Policy
This policy covers what The Reader’s Codex collects when you visit our websites, join our email list, or buy the Codex, and what we do with it. The short version: we collect the email address you give us, basic analytics about how the site is used, and the order details our payment provider passes on. We never sell your information.
Who We Are
The Reader’s Codex is a brand of Lewis Media Group LLC, a Virginia limited liability company (“we”, “us”). This policy applies to thereaderscodex.com and its subdomains, including the reading order guides, the free trackers, and the Goodreads importer at import.thereaderscodex.com. For any privacy question, email [email protected].
What We Collect
Information You Give Us
- Your email address, when you sign up for a free tracker, the waitlist, or the live demo. We also record which form you used, so we send you the right thing.
- Your order details, when you buy the Codex. Checkout is run by Lemon Squeezy, which passes us your name, email address, country, and what you bought. We never see your full card number.
- Anything you write to us, when you email us for help.
Information Collected Automatically
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see which pages are visited and which buttons are pressed. It records things like the pages you view, the site that sent you, your device and browser, and your approximate location (country or city, from your IP address). Google Analytics uses cookies to do this.
- Server data. Our sites are hosted on Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver pages and to protect the sites from abuse.
- Fonts and videos. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address. If you play a video embedded from YouTube, YouTube’s privacy policy applies to that video.
What We Don’t Collect
- Your Codex. When you duplicate the Codex, the copy lives in your own Notion workspace. We have no access to it or to anything you write in it. Notion’s own privacy policy applies to your workspace.
- Your Goodreads file. The Goodreads importer runs in your browser, and your export file is never uploaded to us. To find covers, it sends each book’s title, author, and ISBN to Open Library and Google Books. Nothing else from the file is sent.
How We Use It
- To send you what you asked for: a free tracker, the demo link, or the Codex itself.
- To send you emails about The Reader’s Codex. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and one click takes you off the list.
- To answer your questions and help with your order.
- To understand which pages and guides are useful, so we can improve them.
- To keep our sites secure and working.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted advertising.
Who We Share It With
We share information only with the services that run the Codex for us, and only what each one needs:
- Kit sends our emails and stores our email list.
- Lemon Squeezy processes payments and acts as the seller of record for your purchase.
- Cloudflare hosts our websites.
- Google provides analytics, fonts, and our support email.
- Notion hosts the template you duplicate.
- Open Library and Google Books receive book titles, authors, and ISBNs from the Goodreads importer.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others. If Lewis Media Group LLC or The Reader’s Codex is ever sold or merged, your information would pass to the new owner under this policy.
Legal Bases (EEA and UK)
If you’re in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on your consent to send you emails, on our contract with you to deliver your purchase, and on our legitimate interest in running, securing, and improving our sites for analytics and server data. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
Cookies
Our own pages don’t set cookies. Google Analytics does, to count visits and tell new visitors from returning ones. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site works the same without them.
How Long We Keep It
- Your email address stays on our list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After you unsubscribe, we may keep a record of your address so we don’t email you again.
- Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Analytics data is kept for no longer than 14 months.
- Support emails are kept for as long as they’re needed to help you.
Your Rights
You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or give you a copy. You can also object to how we use it or withdraw your consent. Email [email protected] and we’ll reply within 30 days. We won’t treat you differently for asking.
If you’re in California, you have the right to know what we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don’t sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. If you’re in the EEA or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where Your Information Is Stored
We’re based in the United States, and the services we use store information in the United States and elsewhere. When your information leaves the EEA or UK, it’s protected by those services’ safeguards, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Children
Our sites are not directed to children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us their email address, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
We use reputable services with strong security, keep access to your information limited, and never store payment card details ourselves. No website can promise perfect security, so if you believe your information has been exposed, tell us right away.
Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we’ll also tell you by email.
